I believe that our farmers and ranchers are the best stewards of the land and as the ones who use the land and benefit from it should also be the ones to manage it. Government has a responsibility to protect ecologically sensitive land, which it does through the Wildlife Habitat Protection Act and Crown Conservation Easements.
The transfer of community pastures allows the ranchers who have historically benefited from the pastures to continue to use the pastures, but without government oversight. It is not a core service of government to manage an individual’s livestock. Government needs to focus on offering services that benefit the larger population - education, health care and highways for example.
